Overview:
A growth oriented leadership role within the plant QA department that stands in for the QA Manager. Responsibilities include direct management of shift Quality Assurance staff and inspection duties that encompass all SPC, Inspector and Technician responsibilities and knowledge. The QA Supervisor is responsible for shift HR duties, daily and project objectives, as instructed by the QA Manager, and for affecting all products, QMS and SPC inspections. Must provide solid leadership to achieve the company, plant, and department goals through various management, evaluation and improvement strategies aimed at improving overall quality and profitability. Is expected to master and apply all QA policies and procedures in daily interactions with plant production and quality employees.

Responsibilities:
1.Quality Verification & Regulatory Compliance - On a daily basis the employee must demonstrate ownership and practical knowledge of all QA and Regulatory programs and apply them to make sound decisions and execute quality oversight. This will be accomplished while supervising shift Quality Assurance employees and by conducting quality inspections. Success is judged based on the ability to execute the quality objectives as directed by the Quality Assurance Manager, as well as the adherence and execution of all Farmland policies and programs associated with Foods Safety, Quality, and Regulatory Compliance.
2.Sanitation and Food Safety Support - Employee is required to conduct operational and pre-operational sanitation inspections including micro sampling to verify the effectiveness of sanitation activities. The duties include regular completion of Food Safety, CCP and sanitation paperwork that should ultimately result in no FS deviations. FMP and Sanitation audits are conducted as directed with documented corrective actions and follow-up as necessary. The employee is required to take action in response to negative micro and Shelf Life data to drive improvement.
3.Quality Improvement - Employee must be solution oriented and work to prevent process or product failures. Continuous improvement of product quality through attention to process and specifications with organized activities including Operations and QA is expected. This will be judged through how well special projects, including those assigned by the QA Manager, are accomplished along with everyday and extra ordinary tasks.
Activities will include training employees in quality functions, daily product shows, being current on specs and updating Operations, monitoring giveaway and yields for opportunities.
4.Personnel Management - Employee must provide solid leadership and effectively manage staff members so quality objectives are met. Employee is responsible for managing HR duties, performance plans, work schedules, vacations, assignments, and special projects as well as training and personnel development for shift direct reports.
5.Personal and Professional Performance - Employee should seek continued education and to achieve the competencies for a QA Manager. Employee is required to be at work on time or follow the appropriate call in procedure. The employee should make a clear effort to maximize floor time and relate to all persons as professionally as possible. Employees should attend all required line, plant and department training and routine meetings with a positive attitude making presentations and asking questions as required.
Qualifications:

Education:
?Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Food Science or related field and 3-5 years experience in the meat industry and processes; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Competencies:
?Knowledge and understanding of food science and meat processing.
?Knowledge of USDA, FSIS, HACCP, and SSOP requirements.
?Knowledge of SPC and statistics.
?Working knowledge of quality assurance principles.
?Ability to uphold regulatory, company, and customer standards.
?Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
?Knowledge of software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet and Word Processing software; FFI-QMS system and SAP.
?Must be able to travel up to 5% of the time

Supervisory
Responsibilities:
Supervises 4 to 6 employees in the Shift Quality Assurance Department.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization''s policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Travels as necessary to complete tasks and is willing to relocate to other plants.
Physical Demands:
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
Work Environment:
Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts; frequently exposed to extreme cold; occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme heat and vibration.
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud if in the manufacturing/production environments.
